COLONIAL
TREASURES: GUANAJUATO & SAN MIGUEL
September 26 – October 6, 2008 $2,600 Note date change!
My former hometown of Guanajuato
offers art and history museums, world-renowned ceramicists, historic
haciendas, and a European-style ambience that is absolutely unique, not
to mention a wealth of friends with open arms…and doors. San Miguel de
Allende, a charming town with plenty to offer any day of the year, is
never more alive than during the fiestas for her patron, Saint Michael.

DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS ON LAKE PÁTZCUARO
October 23 - November 3, 2008 $2,500 Extra day this year!
Please note: Deadline for
registration August 24, 2008
After a day touring
the beautiful colonial city of Morelia,
we'll settle into Casa Santiago,
the delightful guesthouse and home of my friends Kevin and Arminda, in a
small village on the shores of Lake
Pátzcuaro. Our week
there will allow us time to visit the homes and studios of some of Mexico's finest artisans, tour the sights,
shops, and markets of picturesque Patzcuaro, and most importantly, time
to participate in this family’s preparations for one of Mexico’s most profound and
beautiful celebrations, Day of the Dead.

TREASURES
OF THE YUCATÁN: MÉRIDA
December 5 - 14, 2008 $2,600
The alluring city of Mérida will be
our home base for this foray into the fascinating state of Yucatán, where
a unique blend of Maya and Spanish influences are evident in its
architecture, food, music, traditions, and art. This “behind the doors”
tour of Mérida will provide a taste of this fascinating fusion as we
visit the magical Maya ruins of Uxmal and Chichen Itza, float through
mangrove-lined estuaries filled with flamingos, dip our toes in the clear
blue waters of underground cenotes,
and dine in lovingly restored 16th century henequen haciendas. Again this
year, one of the highlights of the trip is the outstanding cooking (and
history…and geography…and anthropology…and…) class at Los Dos Cooking
school.

¡VIVA CHIAPAS!
January, 2009 $3,750 Exact dates TBD
This perennially favorite tour just
seems to get better each year as my friendships throughout Chiapas grow. The
comprehensive trip includes celebrations, folk art, and the stunning Sumidero Canyon in
Chiapa de Corzo, the charming colonial-yet-cosmopolitan city of San
Cristóbal de las Casas and the outlying Maya villages where time just may
stand still, an all-day road trip across the dramatic mountains of
Chiapas with stops at Agua Azul and Misol-Ha en route to the magnificent
Maya ruins of Palenque. There is something for everyone on this wonderful
adventure.

MONARCHS AND MASTERY IN MICHOACAN
February 27 - March 8, 2009 $2,900
This tour begins and ends in the
European-style city of Morelia, my new
favorite place in Mexico.
From Morelia
we’ll travel across the lushly forested state of Michoacán to Zitácuaro,
the winter resting place for millions of migrating monarch butterflies
and home to world renowned chef and cookbook author Diana Kennedy. Our
days there will be spent walking among the monarchs and cooking with the
master, all the while enjoying the splendid ambience of the wonderful
Hotel Rancho San Cayetano.
